Community First, First Responders
Trained volunteers responding to 999 medical
emergencies — bridging the gap until an ambulance
arrives. We cover a 15km radius including Ballysteen,
Askeaton, Rathkeale, Ardagh, Shanagolden & Foynes.
Providing life saving interventions over a 707km2 area!
Askeaton CFR is a team of trained volunteers working with the National Ambulance Service to respond to life-threatening emergencies like cardiac arrest, choking, stroke, and unconsciousness.
We arrive in the crucial minutes before an ambulance, bringing CPR, AEDs, and emergency care right to your doorstep.
We Respond to:
✔️ Cardiac Arrest
✔️ Heart Attack
✔️ Stroke
✔️ Choking
✔️ Unresponsive patients
In the first six months of 2025 we've had 203 taskings by the Ambulance Service⚠️
⏱️ Every minute without CPR = -10% chance of survival
Survival drops rapidly if CPR isn't started. Without it, brain damage begins within minutes.
💔 Over 5,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest each year
Most happen at home. CPR and a defibrillator within the first 5 minutes can make the difference.
🚑 Ambulance response times in Limerick have increased by 56%
Average wait rose from 16 minutes (2019) to 25 minutes (2022) in the Mid-West region. When time is everything, that gap can cost lives.
🏥 Ambulances now wait 45+ minutes at UHL to hand over patients
That means fewer ambulances on the road and longer delays for the next emergency.
🕒 1,100 people died before an ambulance could reach them in 2023
That’s a 70% increase since 2016. Trained Community First Responders can be the difference between life and death in those critical early minutes.
